The beginning of a New Project

It's always exciting to begin a new project and this is one I've been waiting on for a while.

I believe it was December when I decided it was time to knit my first sweater. After much thought, I decided to knit Ariann. I purchased the pattern, I swatched using Cascade 220. I was happy with the yarn, but I needed to find the right color. This proved to not be an easy thing. Although I knew in my mind exactly what color I wanted, finding it online was difficult. I've had experiences with ordering yarn online and finding that the color is slightly (or more than slightly) different when it arrives. Most of the time, I'm not bothered by this, but I knew with this yarn, for this sweater, I wanted something specific.

So I waited. And yesterday, when I just happened to be visiting a LYS in the area to look for something else (which it turned out they didn't have), I found this:

Now is a good time to mention that I have not yet figured out how to photograph true color. I think this photo is pretty close, but I'm not sure it exactly represents the color of the yarn. Even if it did, there are many variables to consider - monitors, web browsers, color settings, etc... these can all affect how the photo is displayed. So, having said all that - this is the yarn I'll be using to knit my first sweater. It's Cascade 220 in the "Sage" color and I think it's going to be perfect. It's a very rustic looking muted green.

I don't plan to cast on for a few days, as the other four skeins are waiting for me at the LYS (They only had three there, but then they found the others that I needed in the same dyelot and they arrived today. How's that for service?!) I also think I might have a few gauge issues to work out before I can really begin.

Next time: Socks!
